Matt is a member of the Executive Committee and is responsible for growing United Capital via strategic partnerships and acquisitions of select wealth management companies around the county. Matt’s focus, through a proprietary evaluation method of assessing the cultural and business match of a potential partner firm, is to ensure United’s ability to improve the business. Matt’s team is also responsible for the design and execution of the partnership agreement and integration into United Capital.
Matt holds a BA in Economics and Minor in Finance from the University of Colorado, Boulder and obtained his MBA from University of California, Irvine Paul Merage School of Business.
Matt is a former Division I soccer player and qualifier for the USAT Triathlon National Championships and continues to be very active with his wife and two children. They spend their free time skiing, surfing and traveling.
Jason Gordo is the Head of National Adviser Partnerships for United Capital, the nation’s first and largest financial life management company. As part of his responsibilities, Jason serves as the marketplace spokesperson and initial sales manager for FinLife® Partner firms and acquisition efforts.
A proven entrepreneur, investor, author and sought-after industry speaker, Jason was previously the founder of Valley Wealth, Inc. – an investment advisory firm which served the needs of high-net- worth clients, endowments, foundations, and corporate retirement plans.
Jason received an undergraduate degree in Business Management and is currently pursuing an M.A. degree in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University. He also earned his industry credentials from the College for Financial Planning, CRPS® and the Center for Fiduciary Studies, AIF®.
Along with his three young daughters – Emily, Lily and Grace – Jason and his wife, Tracy, reside in Monterey, California.
Jacqueline enjoys playing a key role throughout the entire partnership process; building relationships, performing financial analysis to determine value, and working closely with advisers to develop deal structure and terms. She enjoys collaborating with all disciplines to learn about the fascinating work that is done to improve the lives of clients and advisers. Jacqueline thrives in this entrepreneurial environment and is constantly amazed by the energy, passion and talent by which she is surrounded.
Jacqueline’s past experience provides her with a unique lens for analyzing opportunities for United Capital. From participating in two FDIC-assisted bank acquisitions to being the lead business analyst for the San Diego Division of California Bank & Trust to M&A work for a hotel management company, Jacqueline gained analytical and valuation experience through various roles of increasing responsibility and exposure. Jacqueline graduated from the University of San Diego and holds a Bachelors of Business Administration, Major in Finance.
Balance is important in every aspect of Jacqueline’s life. While results-driven and determined at work, she is equally passionate about her better half, Dave, and enjoying great food and wine with family and friends.
Casey is responsible for coordinating and organizing the recruiting of firms within the Acquisitions department. She has a background in project management, database functionality and customer service. Casey streamlines the process by making sure all potential United Capital acquires are properly tracked and the transition from candidate to United Capital team member is seamless.
Casey graduated with honors from Ripon College in Ripon, WI with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics and Government.
An avid reader and bargain shopper, Casey lives in Irvine with her husband and their two rambunctious children.
James is primarily responsible for driving the evaluation and structuring of M&A transactions through financial analyses to determine value and ad hoc analyses as required by management. As well as providing execution support for acquisition transactions and business due diligence.
He recently graduated Cal Poly Pomona and holds a Bachelors of Science, Major in Finance. While in college, James completed a 16-month apprenticeship program with Chipotle Mexican Grill where he managed a $1.5 million store, oversaw the development of 35 employees, and increase semi-annual sales by 11.5%.
He is a consummate outdoors man and volunteer; spending his off-hours serving in the local community. James is an accomplished pianist, achieved the Eagle Scout award with top honors, and conducts his life with integrity and discipline
Allen is responsible for New Partner Development at United Capital. As such, he leads United Capital’s strategic partnerships and acquisitions of select wealth management companies throughout the country.
As the former owner of a succesful practice for 25 years, Allen is uniquely positioned to help owners of wealth management practices sift through complex issues they face every day.
Using United Capital’s proprietary evaluation method, Allen can quickly assess the cultural and business match of a potential partner firm to ensure United Capital’s ability to improve the business and enhance the potential partner’s quality of life.
Allen was a biology major at Wingate University in North Carolina where he was a former linebacker on the Bulldog football team. Allen enjoys cooking and traveling with his wife and two children. Allen resides in Charlotte, NC.
Jay is responsible for new partnership development at United Capital. An RIA industry veteran, Jay has spent the last twenty years helping hundreds of investment advisers structure, grow and maximize their enterprise value. A former senior executive of both Fidelity Investments Institutional and TD Ameritrade Institutional, Jay has led multiple consulting engagements including adviser acquisitions, business valuations, technology and infrastructure development, adviser formation as well as compliance and industry best practices. Jay’s in-depth knowledge of the challenges and opportunities facing today’s financial professional is an invaluable resource to our partner firms.
A former Certified Public Accountant, Jay holds Accounting and Finance degrees from the University of Oklahoma.
Jay is also a real estate entrepreneur and huge sports fan. He lives in Northern California with his wife and two young daughters.
Mo joined United Capital FinLife Partners from a multi-family office, $10B in assets at its peak, where he served as a Managing Director in their New York City office. Mo worked with ultra high-net-worth individuals and families and led business development efforts.
Mo’s start in financial services was in 2001 at Credit Suisse in the Alternatives Investments Group, after completing his active duty service as a naval officer. A surface warfare officer, Mo deployed to the Mediterranean and Middle East.
Mo earned a Bachelor of Science degree with English from the United States Naval Academy and a Master of Business Administration from the Johnson School of Management at Cornell University.
Phil is responsible for the identification and development of new strategic partnerships on the west coast. A fierce champion of the human advisor, Phil is passionate about helping firms adapt to an industry that is becoming more digital with each passing day.
Before joining United Capital, Phil was the Director of Business Development for a hybrid RIA where he was responsible for building a platform to recruit independent advisors across the country. Spearheading this effort, Phil’s duties included value proposition creation, branding, technology, pricing, marketing and integration with compliance and legal functions. In 2016, after two short years and more than $1B of new assets, his firm was named the fastest growing RIA by FA Magazine.
Phil received a football scholarship to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he started as a true freshman at safety in 2001, playing for the National Championship in the Rose Bowl. Phil graduated in 2005 with a degree in Business Administration, completing his final semester at Bond University located in the Gold Coast, Australia.
An avid traveler, Phil loves exploring new places around the globe, meeting new people and experiencing new cultures. When stateside, you can find Phil in the mountains in search of fresh tracks in the winter and looking for his tee shot in the deep stuff in the summer.
Brian works with the Managing Directors in the East to develop strategy and create new growth opportunities for their respective regions.
Brian currently serves on the Financial Planners Association Board and is Chairman of the Board for the Youth Life Foundation of Tennessee benefiting underprivileged children. Brian has a B.A. degree in Economics from Hampden-Sydney College, holds a Certificate of Financial Planning from Belmont University and was a Registered Principal holding the series 24,7,6,63,65 qualifications.
Brian lives with his wife Kimberly and their son Brian Timothy Church II in Franklin, TN. Mr. Church is very involved in the community as well as his church. He is an avid golfer and enjoys public speaking and writing in his spare time.
